Second structure prototype

Another prototype printed in PETG (this time in grey rather than red) to explore how my satellite’s structure should be built. I really like this design, its robust and overcomes the issues identified from the previous iteration.

Unfortunately, I also realized this approach is flawed: the requirement for inhibitors (as well as separation springs) on the Z- size of the rails will interfere with the M3 bolts used to mount the rails to the horizontal component tray.

I’ve discovered “vented socket cap screws” that are manufactured with a hole drilled through the center for the entire length.

I’m thinking a shaft could be passed through that hole as the connection to the inhibitor switch. Would require a redesign for how the vertical rails (Z- to Z+) mount to the bottom component tray.

Onward to prototype 3.
